Comparison Bird Buffer vs USDA bird control

Curious how our bird repellent devices work? You've come to the right place. BirdBuffer offers the best solution in the industry. Read on for more information, or print out our handy How It Works PDF.

The BirdBuffer® Q2 shown above is placed on the roof over the area where birds are flying daily (or hung as shown below). The penetration of the vapor into the mucus membrane of the birds causes a response in their trigeminal nerve which acts as a repellant. As you can see in this diagram, it is keen to where the birds are flying and most active. For pigeon control, the vapor penetrates the deeper, affecting the birds only when they fly. This is a key element to keeping them away from large areas and makes it possible to have better pigeon control then other forms or methods. The BirdBuffer® Q2 is operated by an electronically controlled timer activating a vaporizer/blower to spread the vapor over large areas, yet effective with very small amounts of fluid.

A timer releases the vapor every 2 minutes into the air to keep fresh vapor in the area for birds. Customer like the aroma of the vapor as it adds a slight sweet scent. There have been times we have been requested to turn the output up so the people can smell it even when the birds have left. It’s just that pleasant!

No spray, residue or thick fog is emitted with the clean, invisible output of the BirdBuffer® Q2. It is self contained, easy to maintain and stays warm in winter months for those cold days. Overfilling is a thing of the past. The latest model is easier to fill, and lockable for security.

Bird Buffer® Q2 works as a pigeon control and other flying birds with tested and approved bird repellant, MA (Methyl Anthranilate). MA, is a concentrated grape juice concentrate and flavoring used in many food products including bubble gum and is USFDA approved (United States Food and Drug Administration ). The BirdBuffer® is operated by an electrically controlled air compressor/blower motor to vaporize the fluid.

The tiny particles of vapor (less than 10 microns) enter the birds breathing system. It becomes an irritant and the birds fly away. When the birds come back, they once again breathe the irritant and fly away. Birds soon remember the irritant in the area…and stay away. mph. This spreads the vapor for even bird control, and makes the bird vapor virtually invisible for pigeon control. While the birds are sitting, it will not affect them. When the birds fly, the vapor then gives you good bird control. It is better if they are present and start flying in the vapor for the best pigeon control.

BirdBuffer® Profile With the extension, the unit can be hidden behind trees and protrude away from the tree area or around machinery or equipment. Ask for “the extension” when ordering the BirdBuffer® Q2

Unlimited cycle-timer capabilities

When plugged into the 24 hour timer and the power switch is turned on, the blower pushes out the any vapor that is inside the unit. A cycle-timer turns on the compressor that creates more vapor. The bird vapor cycle timer can be adjusted to run for longer periods for high pressure flying birds. Then you may want to reduce the setting for a lower rate to disperse when the birds have left, to keep them from coming back. The cycling of the compressor that makes the vapor will stay on the settings you provide while the blower is constant, giving more coverage.

Why is Automation of the machine important?

In our studies, we have found that the automation is extremely key to good bird control. By offering a timer that turns the vapor producing compressor “on and off” at regular intervals, we have found:

  • The vapor spreads better and stays drier without residue or using too much fluid.

  • It keeps the vapor from being too thick. Being invisible is key to our program.

  • It provides less consumption of product at the right times. The one gallon per month can only work with automation.

  • It pulses the particles further without over-saturating the air with too much product.

  • Too much vapor is as bad as too little. Proper settings are key to best results. It’s like driving a car 90 mph in a 35 mph zone if you leave it on all the time.

  • The birds can’t see the vapor, so have nothing to relate to the discomfort. The vapor stays invisible, they don’t know when it will be coming. They can only relate to your facility being the problem. So they go away and stay away, sending a “scout” to keep a look out for opportunity to return.

Long periods of time can be completely vaporized sufficiently with only small amounts of fluid. Each hour of vapor only uses 15-20 minutes of the overall setting. This allows you to only use one gallon per month without overuse.

For open outdoor areas

The BirdBuffer® will cover a one acre area when strategically placed with the wind assisting (downwind position) or a wind machine over time. To check wind direction and best placement, use the Windicator Can of spray smoke to determine coverage and be able to “see” the air movement and direction.

Starting with a 200’ x 200’ area, increased coverage comes with time and training of the birds. Start your vapor in the highest area of bird control needs. Allow the bird control to increase over several weeks ahead. You will see less and less birds each week as time progresses. During the darkness of night, birds cannot see well and will not try to find a new location (migratory birds fly at night to make longer journeys).

The BirdBuffer® fluid formulation

Rejex-it Bird Repellent is used without any dilution. It is a formulation made from grape extract concentrate which does not mix with water. It is a registered product for approved use with bird control and cannot be changed in its composition. Using fresh fluid is a key component of MA (Methyl Anthranilate). Using all of the fluid inside the Bird Buffer® Q2 before adding more fluid helps insure you are keeping the freshness for best response from the birds. It is important to use fresh fluid (less than one year old) as it does tend to loose it’s potency after time. The product should be stored in areas where other pesticides are not stored. Because it is a registered pesticide (even though classified as , GRAS or Generally Regarded As Safe), it should be handled by a competent, responsible person. Check your local requirements for proper handling, as a licensed pesticide operator may be required.

BirdBuffer® Fluid

Rejex-it consumption

Bird Buffer® Q2 requires very little fluid for good bird control. Two ounces are generally enough to cover up to 4-5 acres per day when wind is favorable, over time. Usually two weeks are sufficient for starting pigeon control in smaller areas and other established flocks of birds from the treated area. During your bird control progress, “scouts” will try to return, requiring the subsequent operation of running the vapor each day, enough to continuously deter the flying birds from returning. After several months, it is possible to turn down the timer for less consumption and still maintain good bird control. Pigeon control can be challenging if you turn it down too much, so keep a regular 2 minute “OFF” program, adjusting the “ON” time up or down.

The best time to vapor

Best pigeon control and other flying birds are achieved when birds become active, flying vigorously in the early morning and evening, just before settling down for the night. Adjust the clock timer for the early morning just before dawn (adjust for daylight savings) when they actively fly to look for their preferred feeding grounds and late afternoon till 30 minutes past dark, when they can fly to locations to relocate. It is important to expose the birds when flying in or out of the area so they have time to find another location before dark. This is a training process that takes a few weeks. When bird control is achieved during the day, do not run the machine at night unless there are lights causing activity or you are dealing with nocturnal birds.

If you are in a closed environment with employees or public and the vapor becomes too strong, it is easy to turn down the volume. The vapor should release a soft, sweet scent that is pleasant for people, but causes the birds to just go away. A light vapor or scent is all that is necessary for good bird control. Never have the unit turned up so high that the light scent becomes overwhelming.

Most people like the scent and find it pleasant. The bird control secret is to have just enough scent to keep the birds and pigeon control and not affect people or animals. Most animals find the scent pleasant and actually enjoy the freshness. Cows have been shown to calm down after birds (the noise and droppings in their face) have left and start producing more milk.
