Mayor of Franklin Township Brian Levine was surprised the DOA didn’t communicate well. We’ve found similar circumstances with this department that regulates itself.

Birds notoriously carry over 40 different diseases with them at all times. Most of the time they are not touching humans and do not spread their disease but are only carriers. But in many cases, birds create huge opportunity for disease to spread when they die in areas of greatest exposure to humans and wildlife.

In this case, having birds dropping from the sky is alarming for several reasons. If one hit you on the head, it would at the least hurt, or cause severe harm. But animals that are in the wild can also think these birds are good game to eat and start a domino effect if they react to the diseases they carry. Also, special concern is always the exposure of protected birds to this “feeding of poison” that may not be restricted to just one type of bird. Killing from any private organization on such a large scale would not be allowed by the DOA. But they do it without any approval process. Since they are the regulatory body that is in charge of bird control, they act even though rules for other businesses are strictly enforced forbidding such actions.
